Pigs in a Blanket
This classic party appetizer is the ultimate dish for both kids and adults. I mean what’s not to love, a juicy cocktail sausage wrapped inside a buttery flaky crescent?? You know where to find me at the party. As a busy mom with 2 under 2, I needed something quick, easy and delicious for this years Super Bowl party. And let me tell ya.. these pigs in a blanket delivered exactly that!
I remember being 9 months pregnant with my daughter, and oh my gosh, I had the biggest craving for pigs in a blanket. The urge was so strong, my son and I drove around endlessly in search. Unfortunately, I did not find any. Not only did I come up short handed, but I had every drive through worker in Thurston County looking at me like I was an absolute looney bird. And maybe I was a little outraged at the fact that no where in the Pacific North West can you find a pig n a blanket. Come on who doesn’t serve a good ol fashioned weiner nestled inside a warm blanket of bread? Maybe Pigs in a blanket are a southern thing? Not sure…All I knew is I had to have them and I needed them ASAP. Once I discovered how easy these pigs are to make, I bought the ingredients and had them on my plate in less than 20 min! And you can as well…Here’s what you’ll need!
What You’ll Need to Make Pigs in a Blanket:
-Cresent Rolls
-Mini Cocktail Sausages
-Butter
-Everything but the Bagel Seasoning
You read correctly…that’s it! Four Ingredients. Pretty simple right?! Im telling you, these are so delicious and so easy, it is quite possibly my new go-to appetizer for all social gatherings from here on out.
How to make Pigs in a Blanket?
First, you will want to start by spreading your cresent dough onto a baking sheet or nonstick cutting board. Next cut the dough along the perforated edges until each piece separates into individual triangles.
From there, using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, slice each triangle into 3 even-ish strips.
Starting at the wider end, wrap each cocktail sausage in each strip of dough. Brush them with melted butter and sprinkle your preferred toppings ( I chose Everything bagel seasoning, however, pretzel salt or poppy seeds are great options as well) Place in the oven and bake until golden brown, serve warm and enjoy!
Serving Suggestions
Serve on a tray immediately after they are finished cooking in the oven. I recommend serving along side a dipping sauce- dealers choice. Typically, I serve my pigs with a honey mustard sauce ( recipe below!) but you can’t go wrong with ketchup, BBQ, Ranch, and/ or regular mustard. I am confident any sauce on hand will work as It is very hard to mess up this combo!
